It’s different enough from their other games too where it doesn’t feel like a rehash. So with that said, I think 10tons has another winner here with Skeletal Avenger. It’s also neat discovering new weapons and armor that can make you stronger, which is what you expect from a good dungeon crawler. The combat is solid and I like the fact that the game really is different each time you play it. I don’t mind though because Skeletal Avenger is genuinely fun to play. Basically, this is a trait shared by many 10tons games in which you play, die, play some more, and all the while, get stronger and stronger until the game becomes a bit easier to survive in. You can use the money you’ve earned to upgrade some more or buy new equipment to prepare for your dive back into the dungeons. Not only that, any upgrades you have stayed with you as well as your stats and items you had equipped. You come back from the dead and you can choose a new random perk each time you die. Weapons and armor also seem to have random stats and abilities attached to them so it’s always best to look at everything you find and compare it to what you have.īecause this is also a rogue-lite, when you die, you don’t really die. What’s neat here is that you can totally upgrade your character’s strengths by arming him with new weapons, armor, and even magical skills. You are also able to throw your skull at enemies like a ranged weapon, but you’ll need to retrieve it in order to throw it again. You have regular weapon attacks as well as a more powerful special attack. In terms of gameplay, it’s mostly standard. There are four different biomes you can encounter – Dungeons, Sewers, Dark Caverns and the Sorcerer’s Castle. That means you’ll never really play the same levels ever, as they are randomly generated each time. It’s mainly a dungeon crawler with procedurally generated levels. If you’ve been a fan of what 10tons has been creating all these years, then you’re going to enjoy this. Skeletal Avenger is very reminiscent of other 10ton games and they’ve basically got this top-down twin-stick, hack’n’slash stuff down to a science now.
